About ALD Driving School

Paul's story

Paul passed his driving test at 17 and has maintained a strong interest in driving throughout his working life.

Before becoming a driving instructor, he worked in accountancy, rating and valuation, and professional driving. These roles developed the organised, methodical approach he now brings to every lesson.

Paul later became an HGV Class 1 driver, operating articulated vehicles weighing up to 44 tonnes on roads throughout the UK. This experience strengthened his understanding of forward planning, observation, safe positioning and sharing the road responsibly with other vehicles.

Wanting to use that experience to help others, Paul qualified as a DVSA-approved driving instructor and established ALD Driving School.

His aim is not simply to help pupils pass their driving test. Every lesson is designed to develop the confidence, judgement and independent driving skills needed to stay safe long after the test has been passed.

How lessons are taught

Every pupil receives one-to-one tuition in a manual car, with lessons planned around their experience, progress and individual needs.

Lessons are calm, patient and structured. Topics are explained clearly, progress is reviewed honestly and pupils are never rushed into attempting something before they are ready.

Paul will help you understand what you are doing, why it matters and how to apply it independently in different road and traffic conditions. A practical test will only be recommended when your driving is consistently at the required standard.

Whether you are starting from the beginning, returning to driving, preparing for a test or developing more advanced skills, your training will be adapted to what you need.
